How do I calculate the total linear foot of stud materials I will need for wall construction?
When it comes to wall assemblies, the set of materials seems straightforward, but there are a few detail that need specific attention.
First, you’ll want to count your studs by determining how many vertical and horizontal pieces you have in a wall. Then, add your header and footer studs to that count (don’t forget obliques too). After that, you need to multiply the total count by the standard stud length called out for the wall. Together, that will give you your total LF.
To add waste, make sure to multiply the total LF by the waste percentage, and then add that number to the total.
